What is anger management?

What is anger management? Anger Management is a procedure of acquiring the skills to recognize you are getting angry, and taking the necessary action to deal with the anger positively. Anger Management does not mean holding the anger in, or trying to keep from feeling angry. Anger is a normal and healthy emotion when it is expressed appropriately. Anger Management helps you to find ways to recognize your anger “triggers”, and develop healthier ways to cope with how that anger makes you feel and act.

An intake worker will be on the other end of the line to listen, help and guide you by answering your questions and providing you with a prompt appointment with the therapist best suited to meet your particular needs. You may also request a free phone consultation to determine if we are a good fit. The number of sessions you will require depends upon your particular problem, specific needs, severity of symptoms, how long you have been dealing with the situation and how quickly you make progress. Also, while some problems may be personal, and require just a few sessions, others may include a variety of relationships, and therefore require more.

Who should attend anger management counselling?

Anyone who has excessive anger or difficulty coping with and managing anger. If the way you express your anger causes harm to you or those around you, it is time to seek out the help of a professional anger management therapist.

When are the “Done With Anger” One-Day Anger Management Classes held?

The group classes are held every Sunday from 10am – 4pm. Individual (one-to-one) classes can be scheduled at your convenience during the week or on Sundays anytime between 8 am – 8 pm.

Do you provide a certificate for court?

Yes, we do. You will receive a same day detailed and certificate of completion immediately following the class.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept most extended Employee Extended Health and Insurance plans in Ontario . If you have insurance benefits that cover counselling from a Registered Psychologist, Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker, they may be used to help cover the cost of the class or individual counselling. Please let us know in advance which kind of therapist (ie. Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Social Worker) your insurance coverage is for, as the billing differs slightly for each.

What should I expect in the anger management group class?

Participants in the class can expect to be treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. If you have been ordered to take this class, you should not see it as a punishment, but rather an educational resource and opportunity to learn new effective skills which will help to improve your interpersonal relationships. The class program mix of anger, relationship and conflict management modules will give you numerous tools to help you work through some of the difficulties you may be facing in your daily life. You should expect all this and….plenty of laughs.

Are you anger management classes only for those who are court mandated?

Absolutely not! Our anger management classes will benefit anyone who like to develop heathier relationships with family, friends and work associates. The skills learned will help reduce stress and improve your communication with assertiveness that will allow you to get your needs met without stepping on the needs others. In general, anyone who would like to build stronger, healthier and longer lasting relationships will benefit from this class.

What are the advantages of attending anger management in a group class?

When you attend anger management in a group class, you will have the opportunity to learn from your peers, while under the leadership of a skilled anger management therapist. You will begin to discover that you are not the only one facing these difficulties and learn how others experience and deal with this powerful emotion. If you choose not to speak out in the class, just listening to what works and doesn’t work for others will be very helpful. You may also receive support and encouragement from your peers. Our group classes are kept small by design, so that everyone attending has the opportunity to interact with the therapist/facilitator. Finally, attending in a group class is considerably less expensive than individualized anger management — but still very effective!

I don’t want to attend Anger Management in a group class. Do I have any other options?

Yes, you do! You may attend anger management individually (one-to-one) or just with your partner. Individual sessions can be scheduled at your convenience. Attending anger management individually allows for the course material to be tailored specifically to your personal situation. Attending with your partner allows for discussion of how each of you contribute to the anger/conflict cycle. This can foster mutual growth and a better understanding between you and your partner. It will also help you to resolve the inevitable conflicts you will be facing faster.

I need to show the court that I have registered for an anger management class. How do I get proof of my registration?

Just call our main office, register for a class and request a registration letter. A letter will be issued stating you have registered and paid for a class and the date of the class. Please note: If we issue a registration letter, the fee paid for the letter/class is non-refundable.

I need a certificate of completion right away! How fast can I get one?

You will receive your certificate of completion on the same day immediately following the class.
